Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is a warming and aromatic winter drink which is excellent when served with mince pies on a cold winter evening.

Ingredients

Mulled Wine

  • 1 bottle of light to medium bodied red wine
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1/2 a lemon, sliced
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 2-3cm piece of ginger (optional)
  • 3 tbsp brandy

Method

  1. Mulled Wine: Stud the lemon and orange slices with the cloves. Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring it to the boil then reduce it to a simmer for a couple of minutes. Remove the mulled wine from the heat and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
  2. Serve the mulled wine in red wine glasses if it is to dry stir in a couple of tablespoons of sugar into the mulled wine. Serve the mulled wine on it own or with mince pies or Christmas cake.
